Who We Are

The Valley Forge Rug Braiding Guild began in 2007 as a group of people getting together and sharing the skills of rug braiding.  We met several times a year first in Harleysville, PA and then in Lancaster County, PA.  We hosted a rug braiding conference every spring at St. Francis Center for Retreat and Renewal in Bethlehem, PA.

The pandemic changed many things.  While there are a few local braiders who gather several times a year in Coatesville, PA,  much of the guild functions have transferred online.  We incorporated as a non-profit in July of 2020, and most administrative and meeting aspects are now conducted over Zoom.

While out yearly spring braid conferences were on hiatus in 2020 and  2021, we have plans for an in-person conference in Easton, PA in March of 2022.

The online focus has created new opportunities for getting together:  braiders in distant locations can take classes with instructors; our special event speakers can give presentations over Zoom from the far reaches of North America, and our Zoom guild meetings still host a vibrant (and always entertaining) Show and Tell.

Our 90 members (as of Sept, 2021) hail from 25 states and 3 countries.  Our guild officers are from Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. We are committed to educating interested braiders wherever they may live on the planet (as long as they have an internet connection!) and helping them to further their artistry and skill in the techniques of Rug Braiding.
